ABOUT THE RUN -
On April 19th 2015, AVEDA will be
working hand in hand with EcoKnights to raise funds and awareness among
the participants and public on issues related to water accessibility,
pollution and water availability in Kampung Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang,
Johor.
In our latest effort in building sustainable communities in Kampung
Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang, this issue of safe and accessible drinking
water is still pertinent and relevant. About 100 indigenous individuals
of the Seletar tribe in Kampung Pasir Putih are relying on irregular
supply and unfiltered piped water. Their current practices are rather
unsustainable and with the lack of support from the relevant
authorities, the quality of their current drinking and washing water is
doubtful. Many villagers there earn less than 500 ringgit a month and
their main economic activity is through fisheries. Now with unreliable
sources of drinking water, Seletar families and their children are at
risk from unsafe drinking water.
EcoKnights is working in partnership with AVEDA to raise funds to
support EcoKnights development-led interventions to benefit the orang
asal Seletar in Kampung Pasir Putih through the Aveda Walk for Water
2015 campaign. This campaign aims to similar the plight of communities
who have to travel far to obtain water resources. Thus, as participants
of the campaign, we will be walking for a distance of 3-4 km in Central
Park at 1Utama, Petaling Jaya.
